Customs Inspector at John F. Kennedy International Airport. After retirement, the Brooklyn native known as "Augie" was living alone in a condominium in Monroe Township after his wife, Anne Marie, passed away in 2001. Augie had established a routine—driving around town, doing the shopping, and cooking his own meals—but his sons worried for his health and safety. "August, who is a priest in Queens, and Joseph, who is a banker and lives in Manalapan with his wife Joanne and four children, hated for me to stay alone," Augie says. "Since I moved to Monmouth Crossing, they say they can sleep at night knowing I am not out driving. I don't need to drive when everything I need is right here." safe and sound A ugust Iantosca, 93, a veteran of World War II, worked for the Treasury Department as a U.S. seniorsfirst CALENDAR OF EVENTS hEaRT of ThE maTTER Augie came to Monmouth Crossing in January 2011, recovering from pacemaker implant surgery at CentraState Medical Center. "I see my cardiologist right here and have blood work every Tuesday," Augie says. "It's much less of a hassle. Plus, they have transportation to take you to the doctor's appointment if your physician is in town." local cusToms Augie enjoys doing crosswords, playing Scrabble® , attending entertainment events at Monmouth Crossing, and making monthly resident trips to Atlantic City. Although he was not a golfer before, Augie has taken to spending mornings on Monmouth Crossing's putting green with fellow residents. " Time goes by fast. My son, August, visits me every week, and JoAnne and Joseph bring my grandchildren to visit, too. I have a different routine now, and I feel fine."
