The legacy of pioneering cardiovascular research at Cleveland Clinic is vast, spanning over 70 years. For almost half of that time, Fetnat Fouad-Tarazi, MB, BCH, MD, has been part of that legacy. In our Cover Story, we offer a glimpse of her groundbreaking discoveries and those of two of her many colleagues, Ahsan Husain, PhD, FAHA, and Freddy Abi-Samra, MD. Read how their col- laborative research translated into new ways to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. Surgery is the theme of our Special Clinical Section. Anchoring it is a feature story on total hip and knee revision surgery at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. More than 1 million Americans per year have a total hip or knee replacement. Revision surgeries account for 15–20 percent of that number, according to Bernard Stulberg, MD. Dr. Stulberg has specialized in total joint and complex revision surgery for almost 35 years. He joined St. Vincent's Spine and Orthopedic Institute last fall. Looking ahead, our November/December Special Clinical Section will focus on cancer, hospice and palliative care. Cancer remains in the news as the controversy over screening guidelines continues. We will focus on the best ways to diagnose, stage and treat male and female adult and pediatric cancers.
