The first class of 51 medical students arrived this summer at the Heritage College, Cleveland. Many of these students have been recruited from northeast Ohio, with the knowledge that if they train and complete their residen- cies in the area, they will be more likely to remain here to practice after they graduate. The college is work- ing closely with Cleveland Clinic and other area healthcare providers to ensure that clinical training slots are available for these students. Lake Health has implemented InQuicker, an innovative online check- in service, at its urgent care and quick care centers to minimize wait time and maximize time patients spend with healthcare providers. Patients can use the free online service to select a designated treatment time at the facility of their choice and then wait in the comfort of their own home or place of work rather than a crowd- ed waiting room. The new service is only intended for individuals who have non-life threatening or non-limb threatening medical conditions. Mercy Medical Center has earned three-year re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its adult hospital inpatient reha- bilitation and adult hospital inpa- tient rehabilitation stroke specialty programs. This is the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows Mercy's substantial conformance to the CARF standards. Mercy voluntarily under- went a rigorous peer review process to earn this accreditation, proving to a team of on-site surveyors its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, ac- countable, and of the highest quality. The MetroHealth System is launch- ing a Language Access and Communication Services Center at its main campus. The center will provide interpretation services for patients with limited English proficiency, hear- ing or sight impairments, and patients requiring literacy support. A concierge center will assist people with navigat- ing the many services MetroHealth of- fers. All staff will be bilingual in English and Spanish, and will have access to telephonic interpreters fluent in more than 200 languages. The services are offered at no additional cost to patients or family members. 2 0 1 5 S E P T E M B E R /O C T O B E R ■ M D N E W S . CO M ■ MD NEWS Cleveland/Akron/Canton | 3 5
