A Husband's Heart-Saving Love An avid Zumba® enthusiast and proponent of physical activity, 37-year-old Lori Parillo of Freehold seemed the most unlikely person to experience a cardiac event that left her in a medically induced coma for nearly a week. "It was the morning after Thanksgiving when my wife's chest started hurting," recalls Lori's husband, Peter Parillo. "Lori went into the bathroom and I heard her say, 'Peter, help me.' I walked in and caught her right before she fell to the floor, unconscious." Acting swiftly, Peter hit the medical button on their house alarm and performed CPR on his wife until paramedics arrived. Lori was taken to CentraState Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with a tear in her aortic artery that lead to a heart attack. "If my husband hadn't continued to perform CPR on me, I might not be alive today," Lori says. "Words cannot describe how thankful I am for him." APPReCiAtion thRouGh eduCAtion To celebrate Lori's survival and the unprecedented care the Parillos received at CentraState, Peter and Lori registered nearly 20 friends to take a CPR course through CentraState's Health Awareness Center. "Unfortunately, many people don't know what to do when someone collapses," Peter says. "Lori and I are testaments to how important it is to know correct CPR administration."
