CentraState Briefs CENTRASTATE'S STROKE PROGRAM REACCREDITED AND AWARDED The Joint Commission has recertified CentraState Medical Center as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. CentraState is among a select group of hospitals designated a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services. To be designated a Primary Stroke Center, hospitals are required to provide specialized care to patients who suffer stroke and need urgent assessment and treatment. Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines® CentraState also has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award. The award recognizes CentraState's commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines. In addition to the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke award, CentraState is also the recipient of the association's Target: Stroke Honor Roll for improving stroke care, and is among an elite group of hospitals who have earned this recognition. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ACQUIRES CARDIAC ARREST DEVICE CentraState's Emergency Department now has a new device to help its emergency physicians and clinicians treat people with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is an abrupt disruption of the heart's function, which causes a lack of blood flow to vital organs that can result in the loss of blood pressure, pulse, and consciousness. CENTRASTATE HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING Fred Morelli, immediate past chair, CentraState Healthcare System Board of Trustees, and John Gribbin, president and CEO, briefed the community on accomplishments at CentraState in 2011 and plans for the new year and how health care reform is impacting hospitals at CentraState's annual meeting in January. CENTRASTATE EXPANDS CANCER SERVICES CentraState Medical Center unveiled the multimillion-dollar expansion of its Radiation Oncology suite in February. The suite includes some of the latest technology in radiation therapy for cancer. In addition, the new ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, a joint venture of ProCure Treatment Centers, Princeton Radiation Oncology, and CentraState Healthcare System, will officially open its doors on March 20.
