Research WITH AN EMERGING focus on precision medicine—improved treatment through earlier diagnosis of disease, individualized treatment plans and better prediction of outcomes—our research program is stepping into the future of pediatric medicine. e recent groundbreaking for an innovative and collaborative research and education center, the expansion of research programs, and a growing number of cohort studies to track factors contributing to health and illness are all part of these efforts. We are forming a centralized research mission with multiple cores. Having the ability to take on challenging and ambitious studies in which we can follow a patient long- term is distinguishing All Children's from most other children's hospitals. —NEIL GOLDENBERG, M.D., DIRECTOR OF THE JOHNS HOPKINS ALL CHILDREN'S CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCHORGANIZATION " " The Johns Hopkins All Children's Research and Education Building, opening in 2018, will be home to the research and academic oces of our four institutes and serve as a center forinnovation in pediatric education and research. HIGHLIGHTS Participating in more than 300 active research studies. The JHM pediatric biorepository at All Children's and the new Johns Hopkins All Children's Molecular Determinants Core are key to our emerging focus on pediatric precision medicine. Physicians at both St. Petersburg and Baltimore campuses are collaborating on clinical trials, translational research and cohort studies (see below), providing larger study populations to support pediatric research. iPICS—An institution-wide prospective cohort study designed to identify key predictors of outcomes in children with a variety of acute and chronic health conditions, both medical and surgical. The data includes clinical and blood and other samples collected for the research. PREDICT (Prospective Research on Early Determinants of Illness and Children's health Trajectories)—A separate cohort study that follows the health journeys of several hundred enrolled children and families.
