HURON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, INC. 172 4TH STREET SE HURON, SD 57350 A Faster Road to Pain-Free Living Huron Regional Medical Center now offers Oxford® Partial Knee replacement, providing patients with knee arthritis a quicker return to their favorite activities. [PHOTO] Carl Huff, MD, MPH Arthritis, an inflammation of the joints, causes stiffness and pain in the knee joints that can interfere with everyday tasks, such as walking or climbing stairs. When conservative treatments – such as over- the-counter and prescription medications and lifestyle changes – are not effective for relieving pain, your doctor may recommend surgery. Although some patients require total joint replacement, many people only need a portion of their knee joint replaced. A Revolutionary Option HRMC offers partial joint replacement using Biomet's Oxford Partial Knee, a revolutionary artificial joint that requires the removal of 75 percent less bone and cartilage than traditional treatments. The procedure is significantly less invasive than total joint replacement, allowing most patients to leave the hospital the day after surgery. "Partial joint replacement is very effective for relieving knee pain, with a lower risk for complications, a faster recovery time and reduced need for physical therapy," says Carl Huff, MD, MPH, board- certified orthopaedic surgeon with the HRMC Orthopaedic Clinic. "Patients can expect to regain their full range of motion and walking ability very quickly after surgery – often in just a few weeks instead of months common with total knee replacement." To find out if partial knee replacement is right for you, call the HRMC Orthopaedic Clinic at (605) 352-6500.
