46 April 21 • 2016 On The Horizon R oyal Oak, get ready for the Morrie. No, despite the name, it's not a kosher butcher shop or a deli, but the latest development from Aaron Fenkell Belen and his outstanding team at AFB Hospitality Group. A sum- mer opening is planned for what promises to be your "go-to" spot at 511 S. Main St. just blocks away from their other successful proj- ects, French restaurant Bistro 82 and ultra-lounge Sabrage. Don't expect just a place for an amazing meal — the planned menu is "eclectic roadhouse cui- sine" — but also a thriving neigh- borhood hangout with live country, jazz, and rock music. Another signal that Michigan is open for business, a slew of popular and exciting restaurant brands has announced plans to come to the Great Lakes State. Famed Chicago pizzeria Giordano's Pizza will open this summer in Holland (3333 W. Shore Drive). The deep-dish franchise will be owned by local restauran- teurs Sophia Leongas and David Jurgensen (owners of the Curragh Irish Pub) along with several out-of-state partners. The liquor license belonging to the now- defunct Bagger Dave's in that location was acquired by the new owners, and there will be a full bar with wine, cocktails and beer on tap. No official opening is scheduled, but a targeted date will be late June or early July. Sometimes controversial brand Chick- fil-A is preparing for a Michigan expan- sion, planning as many as 20 locations across the state in the next five years. Crews are already working on a Lansing location (5617 W. Saginaw Highway) while the company eyes openings in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Metro Detroit. Expect a location opening inside the Somerset Collection by the end of the year. Pittsburgh signature Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar is opening its first two stores in the state, one in Taylor (23000 Eureka Road) and the other in Novi (43335 Crescent Blvd). Founded in 1933, the famed haunt is known for its sig- nature sandwiches, pizza and wings. Also expanding, Birmingham's Social Kitchen & Bar, which will open this month in Grand Rapids (435 Ionia Ave. SW). It's the first foray into West Michigan for Peas & Carrots Hospitality and their first repeat location for one of the com- pany's concepts. SHOPPING FOR GOOD Now through June 30, help Whole Foods Market make a difference in our com- munity, one dime at a time. The national grocer will refund shoppers a dime for every bag they reuse at its West Bloomfield, Troy and Rochester Hills stores. Instead of pocketing the change, you can elect to have the money donated to CARE House. Established in 1977 by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office and Children's Protective Services, CARE House is a leading resource in the prevention of child abuse and neglect and the only organization of its kind in the county. SAVE THE DATE Mark your calendar for this year's JVS Strictly Business Luncheon June 23 at the MGM Grand Detroit — it's a remarkable, inspiring event you won't want to miss. This year's keynote speaker is John Rakolta Jr., CEO of Walbridge. For more informa- tion, email fvictor@jvsdet.org or call (248) 233-4290.
