INSIGHTS MERCY SUMMER 2016 MISSION The Mission of Catholic Health Initiatives is to nurture the healing ministry of the Church, supported by education and research. Fidelity to the Gospel urges us to emphasize human dignity and social justice as we create healthier communities. CORE VALUES REVERENCE INTEGRITY COMPASSION EXCELLENCE Inside Our Mission in Action P. 2 Auxiliary Donates Equipment P. 4 WHEN MISSION CALLS When Valley City native Naomi Koch, MS, ECSE, stepped into the role of Director of Case Management for CHI Mercy Health, she didn't just extend her career, she found another way to make a dierence. Naomi treasures the opportunity to participate meaningfully in people's lives, both professionally and personally. "My mission in life and in work is to love people through acts of service," Naomi says. "I assist patients and their families in our Swing Bed Program. I educate them about their options and, perhaps more importantly, listen to their stories, get to know their goals, and sit with them while they face life-changing decisions. For me, moving toward people in need of guidance is a profound experience." When Naomi is o the clock, she continues to gravitate toward others through her role in Unite to Silence the Stigma, a not-for-prot committee in Jamestown devoted to suicide prevention and ending the stigma surrounding mental health. "When you lose a family member to mental health issues," Naomi says, "you realize the idea of family extends beyond the walls of a single house to encompass the entire community." The CHI Mercy Health mission to build a healthier community aligns with Naomi's mission, making her new role as meaningful as being warmly welcomed home. Naomi Koch, MS, ECSE
