ON AUGUST 23, Johns Hopkins All Children's and Florida Hospital set in motion a clinical pathway system that enhances the connection between local health care providers and families in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. "We have had a relationship with Florida Hospital Tampa for a long time and have a history of Johns Hopkins All Children's physicians providing care, including neonatal and surgical care, to a select patient population at their hospital," says Tony Napolitano, M.D., neonatologist, pediatric medicine department chair for Johns Hopkins All Children's. "But we wanted to bring the services provided by both facilities together under one umbrella with a stronger affiliation and more comprehensive approach." Each patient may then be discharged, transferred to the inpatient center at Florida Hospital Tampa or transferred to the Johns Hopkins All Children's main campus, depending on what is best for the child's care. "Because of the Florida Hospital network, we have the opportunity to reach more patients and control the quality of care they receive," Napolitano says. "We're able to provide more of a continuum of coordinated care for all of our pediatric patients. So it was a win-win for everyone." Clinical care provided through this affiliation includes programs addressing a variety of specialties, including: Cardiology Critical care Hematology/Oncology Hospital medicine Neonatology Pediatric surgery "All of these programs reside at Florida Hospital Tampa, with the access points being the emergency centers," Napolitano says. "We share documentation, education and orientation to our pathways. Outcomes filter through to our quality dashboard to be overseen by the oversight committee responsible for Johns Hopkins All Children's and Florida Hospital Tampa." e collective goal of the partnership for both facilities is to provide the most robust spectrum of options to patients regardless of where they are. e new model of an exclusive affiliation enables the team to deliver the highest quality of care closer to home.
