The ride will mirror the annual Ride for the Living in Poland, started in 2014, where cyclists gather from around the world to ride from Auschwitz to Krakow (55 miles) to commemorate Jewish history and celebrate the miraculous rebirth of Jewish life in Poland today. The Detroit Ride will raise funds to support the rebuilding of Jewish life in Krakow. It will leave from the Huntington Woods Recreation Center and travel to the Detroit River and back, including an extended break in Corktown. The ride is hosted by NEXTGen Detroit and the Israel and Overseas depart- ments of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and is chaired by Jordan Weiss, Lowell Weiss, Mark Kowalsky and Ron Sollish. "I'm riding to support a great community organization dedicated to spreading light and Jewish life in what was once a dark place. This is an event of solidarity and persever- ance," Weiss said. Ride for the Living was inspired by Robert Desmond, a member of the Krakow Jewish community who rode his bicycle 1,250 miles from London to Auschwitz, visit- ing WWII sites of liberation along his journey. Desmond established the Ride for the Living to celebrate Krakow as not only a place of loss, but also as an expression of hope for the future of Jewish life in Poland. To register, go to https://jew- ishdetroit.org/event/ng-satellite- ride-for-the-living. A $36 donation is required to participate in the ride. For details, call Judy Lansky, (248) 205-2535. • The dedication of the Mel Bornstein Clinic for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at 32841 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills. A dedi- cation ceremony will be followed by a tour of the new offices located in the Michigan Psychoanalytic Foundation building. The clinic evolved through a gift from Dr. Mel and Audrey Bornstein of Franklin and by sub- sequent donations from friends and members of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute and Society, as well as a grant from the American Psychoanalytic Association Foundation. The clinic is a separate nonprofit corporation. "For over 40 years, the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute has provided reduced-fee psychoanalysis and psy- chotherapy in Farmington Hills and Ann Arbor," said Aisha Abbasi, M.D., chair of the steering commit- tee overseeing the project. "We have never, until now, been able to collect reimbursement from insurance companies. Our pri- mary mission is to broaden the base of those we might serve in the community by enabling people to use their insurance to help them underwrite the costs of therapy." The Mel Bornstein Clinic plans to receive the accreditation of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, which will meet the requirements for reimburse- ment from most insurance compa- nies, including eventually Medicare and Medicaid. • Bornstein Clinic Dedication Dr. Mel Bornstein Bernstein To Speak At Bais Chabad Sara and Morris Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center will celebrate its 43rd Annual Dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the Young Israel of Oak Park,15140 W. 10 Mile Road.
