6 CRHEALTHCARE.ORG More an a Hpital EXEMPLARY A Bright Light Eight years ago, Garrett Tolley, EP, BS, MEd, followed in the footsteps of his mother and grandmother when he accepted a position at Columbus Regional Healthcare System. Throughout the years, he's joined the Employee Emergency Care Fund and taken roles on multiple committees, including CRHS's Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Employee Wellness Committee. His drive comes from a personal commitment to help people navigate tough times. "We work with patients who are often scared, in pain and experiencing some of the worst days of their lives," Tolley says. "I aim to be the one bright spot in my patients' day— the person they can count on for a smile, to bring them a sandwich or to bring their car to the door when it's raining." WE RECENTLY CAME TOGETHER TO THANK THE PEOPLE WHO SPEND EVERY DAY IMPROVING AND SAVING LIVES AT COLUMBUS REGIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. RECOGNIZING SERVICE On May 8, members of the CRHS team gathered at Vineland Station in downtown Whiteville. The occasion? Our annual employee service award banquet, a tradition upheld during National Hospital Week that gives us an opportunity to honor employees who are celebrating milestone tenures or who routinely exceed expectations when caring for their patients. The 2017 event featured a buffet meal, music by the Dockside Strings and the chance to win door prizes. We also presented the 2017 Bettie Ann Lamb Singletary Memorial Award and the Grace Drayton Powell Award for Service Excellence. 2017 RECIPIENTS The Bettie Ann Lamb Singletary Memorial Award recognizes team members with an eye for detail and accuracy. This year's recipients, Tammie Coffee and Lawana Bailey, work in the CRHS call center and were acknowledged for their swift action in identifying and coordinating assistance for a caller experiencing suicidal thoughts. A peer-nominated recognition, the Grace Drayton Powell Award for Service Excellence celebrates employees who provide exemplary service to patients, visitors and their CRHS peers. Enthusiastic, dependable and kind are just a few of the words used to describe the winner of the 2017 recognition, Garrett Tolley, EP, BS, MEd, who serves as our cardiac and pulmonary rehab services coordinator and surgical weight-loss coordinator. "Garrett is an exceptional employee," says Andrea West, CRHS vice president of human resources. "Anytime I ask for volunteers, Garrett is the first to participate. Everyone knows him, and everyone loves him—especially his patients." To learn more about Tolley and his philosophy of caring, see "A Bright Light." "Before coming to Columbus Regional Healthcare System, I had never worked with so many people who have tenures of 35 and 40 years, which says a lot about the passion and dedication of our team. The CRHS team is like a family. That, along with our positive, patient-centered atmosphere, makes a big difference for our community." —ANDREA WEST, CRHS VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES Left to right: Sharon Tyler, RN, MSN, CRHS Compliance Officer/Risk Manager, Lawana Bailey (Bettie Ann Lamb Singletary Award winner), Bob Singletary (son of Bettie Singletary), Tammie Coffee (Bettie Ann Lamb Singletary Award winner) and Carla Hollis, CEO of Columbus Regional.
