EVERY ASPECT of environmental-responsibility is now being considered as companies all along the textile supply chain are driving positive change. Material suppliers are not bystanders in this age of eco initiatives; indeed these days textile firms are actively embracing sustainability by investing in compliance, innovating eco-correct products and processes, instituting a corporate culture wrapped around sustainability issues and increasing efforts to heighten consumer awareness around progress being made on the eco front. Our industry has long embraced performance, but the trend now is "functionality made sustainably." Eco attributes now go hand-in-hand with technical features to the benefit not only of those enjoying the end product, but also to those suppliers involved in the production process. Integrating improved chemical management, emission reduction, greater use of plant-based fibers and resource efficiency is paying off. The mantra what's good for the planet is good for business has never been more true than today. There is a lot to cheer about as textile firms continue to advance sustainability measures. Company goals are being realized. In just a few years – and especially when the calendar turns to 2020 – execs believe big impacts will be achieved. The companies profiled on the following pages are leading the charge. An in-depth look at these firms reveals strong commitment to broadening and diversifying their sustainability portfolios. Seven very different companies, yet all focused on a common thread.
