Care you can count on in the new year I hope your 2017 has been exciting and rewarding as ours. We've celebrated many new milestones that mean better health for your family. For example, U.S. News & World Report awarded us Top 50 national rankings in nine of ten pediatric specialties, with five of those in the top 25. These are our highest ratings in the 11 consecutive years the magazine has recognized care at Cohen Children's Medical Center (page 4). These rankings also highlight our progress in improving clinical outcomes, especially in cancer care. Several inspiring pediatric cancer survivors are portrayed in this issue. For example, Petey Miceli creatively filled his time while confined at home recovering from leukemia (page 5). And Spencer Ford and Danielle Cassar are ambassadors of our Survivors Facing Forward support group. Now a teen, Spencer channels the grit he gained during his illness into participation in several kinds of sports. He looks forward to paying forward the kindness he received, and the same is true of Ms. Cassar. A kidney cancer survivor, she is taking college courses in emergency medical services and plans to be a pediatric oncology nurse. Their stories begin on page 14. Not all tumors are cancerous, but benign growths can still be dismaying. A recurring mass in Riley Danbusky's cerebellum met its match when cared for by our U.S. News and World Report-recognized neurology/ neurosurgery team (page 8). The report also recognized our newborn care as the best in New York State. Lucy and Molly Connors may have come into this world 11 weeks early, but we were right on time with the right treatment. The twins are now thriving at home (page 10). Each family is unique, and guarding your children day-to-day is still a handful. We've got you covered there, too. Find tips for keeping children active yet safe in cold weather on page 12 and see page 16 for ways to inspire healthy habits around the dinner table. Nourishing food and regular exercise are building blocks for good health, and your family can benefit from them every day. We're here to help you and your family enjoy moments and milestones together in 2018.
