The First Year
Babies need to see their primary care doctor
three to five days after birth and again at one, two,
four, six, and nine months of age, according to the
American Academy of Pediatrics. During these
visits, your child's doctor will monitor his or her
growth and development and provide immuniza-
tions to protect against several serious diseases:
• hepatitis B
• rotavirus
• diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis
• pneumonia
• polio
• flu
During this first year, you can look forward to
watching your baby learn to sit up, smile, crawl and,
usually right around the one-year mark, say his or
her first words and take those precious first steps.
