WELCOME TO THE FALL issue of Vital Signs. With the change of seasons and cooler temperatures, I hope you're taking the opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall colors we're seeing in the Ohio Valley this time of year. As we near the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we'd like to highlight all the mammography services and technologies women have access to at King's Daughters' Health, which you'll read about on page 3. Cancer prevention and treatment is something we take very seriously at KDH, and it's the motivation behind our hospital's Hope and Healing Campaign, a major fundraising Carol Dozier, CEO Dear Friends and Neighbors, effort we've undertaken to raise money for our new cancer center. Thanks to community volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this center a reality – as well as donors who've given so generously to fight a disease that has affected so many – we've met 75 percent of our $4 million goal for the new facility. We have seen the number of patients treated in our existing Cancer Treatment Center increase each year, a sad reality that underscores the increasing need for cancer care to be provided locally. The proposed plans for our new center include advanced technology and a larger number of medical experts. In addition, with the help of our affiliate, the Norton Cancer Institute, we have selected a Varian iX linear accelerator with RapidArc ® , which will enable us to deliver sophisticated and complex radiation therapy. Although our campaign has been very successful to date, additional gifts are needed to help us reach our goal. To view a video about the Hope and Healing Campaign and learn how you can contribute, visit www.hopeandhealingcampaign.org. Improving cancer care is a mission we're all willing to undertake. This center and the campaign allow everyone to be a part of saving lives. Wishing you wellness, Carol Dozier President and CEO, King's Daughters' Health ON THE COVER: (from L to R) Ben, Kate, Lilly, Ava and Rebekah Canida The mission of King's Daughters' Health is to improve the health of our patients through care, service and education.
