FOR WOMEN AGE 40 and older, having an annual mammogram is one of the best ways to detect breast cancer in its early, most easily treatable stages. King's Daughters' Health offers digital mammography with computer-aided detection (CAD), a faster, more detailed mode of screening than traditional film- based mammography. "The entire mammogram process takes only 10 to 12 minutes. Digital mammography provides improved contrast of dense breast tissue, lower radiation doses to patients and a higher sensitivity to abnormalities seen on a mammogram," says Kathy Phillips, RT, RM, Lead Mammography Technologist at KDH. "CAD is like a second set of eyes for radiologists – it identifies potential abnormalities that deserve a closer look." Tomosynthesis – also known as 3D mammography – will be available in the near future. If a mammogram results in you needing a biopsy, KDH also offers two types of breast biopsy, including stereotactic (mammography-guided) breast biopsy. ■ Have you fallen behind on your mammogram schedule? Get back on track today. Call (812) 801-0440 to schedule a digital mammogram at KDH.
