CHRONIC GASTROINTESTINAL SYMPTOMS, such as heartburn, nausea and abdominal pain,
can indicate a potentially serious disease, making prompt diagnosis essential. If you're suffering,
your first step on the path to relief is seeking out an experienced team of doctors who specialize
in gastrointestinal diseases.
CARE WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH
The Advanced Digestive Care Program at Duke Raleigh Hospital was established in
January 2013 to handle a variety of complex gastrointestinal disorders, ranging from
colorectal and digestive diseases to cancers of the colon, pancreas and liver.
"We have a very team-based approach to care in our program," says Kevin Shah, surgical
oncologist and assistant professor of surgery at Duke Raleigh. "Constant communication
between our physicians allows us to work as a single unit and deliver the best care possible."
Comprehensive care is made easier through program support in coordinating
appointments with doctors and scheduling other procedures, such as computed
tomography (CT) scans if needed.
BRINGING TRADITIONAL SURGERY INTO THE DIGITAL AGE
"We're doing very high-end and cutting-edge procedures in our program," says
M. Benjamin Hopkins, MD, FACS, colorectal surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at
Duke Raleigh. "People don't need to go to the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo Clinic to find these
specialized techniques—we're doing them here at Duke Raleigh."
Physicians at the Advanced Digestive Care Program are treating gastrointestinal cancers
and diseases with the following:
