Planning for theFuture CHI Friendship continually builds upon the services it provides. As part of the reaccreditation process, we identified the following three key areas of growth: 1 Personal nance— The people we support should gain greater control of their money. Questions we can ask include, "How can we help people earn more money to spend on things they want?" and "How can we help each person we support build a monthly and/or yearly budget?" 2 Ownership of support plans—The people we support should understand and take pride in their plans. We hope to make team meetings more fun, highlight each person's annual achievements, and make plan documents less clinical and easier to understand. 3 Networking—We want to help the people we support increase their connections within the community by encouraging social roles and friendships and making the community more aware of CHI Friendship. The goal of CHI Friendship is to make sure that the people we support are treated with dignity, respect, receive opportunities to earn income, and reach their true capabilities. The core issues we look at when evaluating the services provided are, 'Are these people receiving the nest care available?' and 'Are they living an active, full life?' Our partnership with The Council on Quality and Leadership represents the joining of mutual expertise to help provide the best support and care." SISTER STELLA OLSON, PBVM, CHAIR OF THE VILLA NAZARETH BOARD "CHI Friendship is a faith-based organization," said Je Pederson, President of CHI Friendship. "We look at spirituality both from the perspective of faith and the perspective of what brings life to each individual. One person may nd fulllment from getting involved in church or saying prayers before a meal. Others may nd enrichment from activities, their job, or through social connections with friends and family members." We also believe that each person of legal age should hold a job in the community and we are committed to helping the people we support either start their own business or nd jobs within the community. 87 percent of the people we support are employed, and more than 30 own their ownbusinesses. OFFERING AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK UP The reaccreditation event culminated with the Person-Centered Excellence activity. More than 80 CHI Friendship stakeholders, including direct support sta, board representatives, family and community members, and people we support, came together to research and share their perspectives regarding what CHI Friendship currently does well while developing goals and action plans for the future (see "Planning for the Future"). During the next four years, CQL will continue to partner with CHI Friendship to ensure these plans are successfully implemented.
