Healthcare providers may recommend certain facilities for follow-up services for a number of reasons—convenience, familiarity, and proximity among them. Your input is also an important part of the decision-making process, so don't be afraid to speak up when it's time to take next steps for your breast care. Whether you are in need of diagnostic services or a routine screening, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center's Breast Health Center at the Connection for Women offers accurate, compassionate, and effective care. It is also the only facility in the North Country accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Our specialists utilize minimally invasive technology to provide the most comfortable care possible and offer next-generation options such as 3-D mammography, computer-aided detection (CAD) mammograms, and screening mammograms to detect breast cancers early, when they are easiest to treat. Plus, our services have been shown to reduce the need for certain follow-up exams. Claxton-Hepburn now has three ultrasound units that also perform 3-D breast imaging. This technology, along with breast magnetic resonance imaging and our American College of Radiology accreditation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, makes Claxton-Hepburn the leader in breast care in the North Country. Talk with your doctor about how services at the Breast Health Center can benet your health, and plan to visit the facility for any future breast care needs. The Choice Is Yours While it's important to trust your physician, it's also important to question your doctor—especially if he or she recommends you leave the comfort of your hometown hospital for additional services. 3 We take your health personally. L I V I N G W E L L What other hospitals say and what they mean isn't always the same thing. Here are five ways we stand above our competition. 1. Accreditations. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center's Richard E. Winter Cancer Center is the region's only cancer center accredited by both the American College of Radiology and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, which means we follow national standards and guidelines for cancer diagnosis andtreatment. 2. Qualified physicians. Radiation therapy can cause dramatic sideeffects if healthy tissue is affected. We have a medical physicist, dosimetrist, and radiation oncologist on staff to ensure patients receive the most accurate radiation therapy possible. 3. Technology. The Winter Cancer Center is home to some of the area's leading cancer-treating technology, including IMRT SmartBeam Technology, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy, and the Trilogy linear accelerator. 4. Comprehensive Breast Care. The Breast Health Center at the Connection for Women provides multidisciplinary, individualized care for women. Whether you're here for a three-dimensional (3-D) mammogram or breast cancer treatment, you can rest assured that you're accessing the area's leading team of breast cancer specialists. 5. Digital mammograms. At Claxton-Hepburn, mammograms are performed on a 3-D full-field digital mammography unit. Other hospitals use computed mammography, which utilizes an image plate to create a digital image. The image quality with full-field mammography is superior to the older technology being used. 5 Ways ✽✽✽✽✽ Our Breast Services Are Better ✽ ✽ ✽ ✽ ✽
