As part of the monthly JFS Because We Care pro- gram, JFS CEO Perry Ohren and his team were there to help the students gain a firm understanding about both organizations and how they help the commu- nity. Caterer Annabel Cohen was the volunteer chef as groups of teens chopped, diced and cooked mush- room barley soup for 150-plus homeless individuals in Detroit. Caterer Kathleen O'Neill also taught them to make cornbread. The students brought donations of warm cloth- ing items and, under the supervision of Heart 2 Hart's Larry Olenick, helped put together food and basic-needs packages for the homeless in Detroit.
