Outcomes in Action PEOPLE USE THEIR ENVIRONMENTS "People Use their Environments" is a very important outcome for Doris. Doris utilizes a wheelchair on a daily basis, so her home environment has been modified to accommodate her needs in several ways. She is able to use a microwave that has been placed on a lower shelf. The pantry has been organized in a way that allows Doris access to her own food items and to facilitate her involvement with meal preparation. There have also been grab bars and rails installed in her bathroom to ensure she has more independence and privacy. Automatic door openers have been installed in Doris' home, which makes it possible for her to come and go without assistance. When asked what these changes have done for her, Doris replied, " They help me do things I want on myown!" PEOPLE CHOOSE SERVICES Dustin and James have been longtime coworkers and friends, and they recently decided to become housemates. They started touring dierent places to live and were both interested in new residential services. After doing some research, Dustin and James decided to move into an apartment in West Fargo with Friendship supporting them there. They ocially became a part of the CHIFriendship family on April 1, 2016! It has been a joy getting to know these two gentlemen. They couldn't be more opposite from each other, and that's what makes them such amazing people. Dustin is a sports fanatic. He likes to go to the Fargo Force, Redhawks, NDSU Bison Athletics, and basically any other sporting event you can think of that deals with sports. James couldn't be less interested in sports. He is a very creative artist who loves to draw anything nautical. Anchors are his favorite thing to draw, but he will also draw ships, ship wheels, etc. James entered the NDACP art contest that took place on April27–28 to showcase his amazing talents. Both of the guys couldn't be happier to start the next chapter of their lives with CHI Friendship! They choseus! PEOPLE EXPERIENCE CONTINUITY ANDSECURITY Dirk has been working at CHI Friendship's Day Support Program for 23 years. Dirk started by receiving services specically in his home as others thought the community was not the best place for him. Dirk went through the transition of a sheltered workshop setting to being completely community based in 2009. He needed a lot of support with this transition and would not have been able to do it without his wonderful support sta and family. Dirk has two sta who have worked with him for several years and know him extremely well. Without their support, he would not be where he is today. They try to anticipate situations where Dirk will do well and how they can help Dirk succeed while being involved in the community. Dirk now has three dierent jobs he completes weekly. Hehas his own vending business with four vending machines placed in the community. In addition, he delivers rugs every week to businesses in Grafton and Fargo and picks up recycling at businesses around the Fargo area. Looking back at Dirk's journey from working in a sheltered workshop environment to how he is today, he has made such an amazing change! It is so great to see how well Dirk has been doing and how well he responds to the sta who have worked closely with him for so many years.
