These are exciting times for
our community! The YMCA
of Wilmington is considering
the possibility of expanding to
Columbus County. Information
that has been gathered through a
community needs assessment will
help to identify our county's needs
in the areas of youth development,
healthy living and social responsibility.
Columbus Regional Healthcare System is pleased
to support the visioning exercise conducted by the
YMCA. Results of the surveys will be presented at
a Community Forum, to be held on Aug. 10. More
information will follow. We hope to see you there!
This issue of Health Matters is once again packed
with news you can use—from understanding what
breast density can tell you about your risk of breast
cancer (page 4) to an explanation of the role that a
hospitalist plays in your hospital stay (page 6). Also,
we are thrilled to receive a $50,000 Susan G. Komen
Grant and for our continued partnership with the
Columbus County Farmers Market having a satellite
location on the CRHS campus. You'll read about these
on page 3.
Are you having trouble with back pain? Learn about
the new Spine Clinic recently opened at CRHS under
the direction of Micah Merritt, DPT (page 7). Some of
the things that lead to low back pain may surprise you.
And don't forget to look for the hidden beach ball
in this issue for a chance to win a $25 gas card.
