Columbus Regional Healthcare System will use a $50,000 Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate grant to support Think PINK Columbus County: A Rural Breast Cancer Outreach Program. CRHS is devoted to improving breast cancer outcomes in Columbus County through education as well as by removing economic barriers to screenings for women without insurance or without full coverage. "This grant is a significant step in the right direction for enhancing Columbus County women's breast health," says Lisa Thomas, RN, MSN, OCN, director of Donayre Cancer Care Center. "Triangle to the Coast Affiliate is helping us to not only better educate women on breast health, but also encourage them to be their own health advocates." The grant has also helped fund a new addition to the team. Dedicated breast health educator, Lynn Edwards, RN, will help empower women with information and provide free breast screenings. To learn more about the Breast Cancer Outreach Program, call the Donayre Cancer Care Center at 910-641-8220 or visit our website at crhealthcare.org. COME SHOP THE COLUMBUS COUNTY FARMERS MARKET THIS SUMMER AT COLUMBUS REGIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. CRHS became a site of the Columbus County Farmers Market in summer 2015, and reopened the market in May. "We started this program to offer Columbus County citizens even more opportunity to buy fresh fruits and veggies," says Dawn Jenkins, human resources assistant at Columbus Regional Healthcare System. "Having this market at CRHS is a win-win for everyone! CRHS teammates benefit from having fresh produce available right out our back door, and we help our farmers who, in return, keep us healthy." As you shop the market this summer, be sure to talk with the farmers about their produce. They can answer nutrition questions you may have and provide you with some tasty recipes and great cooking tips. The Columbus County Farmers Market takes place at Columbus Regional Healthcare System under a covered shelter off of Tram Road on Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. For more information, email Dawn Jenkins at djenkins@crhealthcare.org.
