4 wellone CONNECTION www.huronregional.org Home Again Born and raised in Huron, Dr. Brock received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She started practicing at Huron Regional Medical Center in August 2016. "Training at a large university teaching hospital, I was exposed to many different practice styles, surgical techniques and patients with high-risk conditions," Dr. Brock says. "I also was expected to keep up-to-date with the most recent literature and evidence-based practices in OB/GYN. It's been a privilege to return to Huron, where I grew up, and use these experiences and knowledge to care for women in the area." The Full Spectrum of Care Although many people assume that an OB/GYN just delivers babies, Dr. Brock and Sara Castellanos, DO, treat the full spectrum of women's health issues at HRMC and the Women's Wellness Center. Some of the more painful or difficult conditions OB/GYNs treat include endometriosis, fibroids, heavy or irregular periods, ovarian cysts, pelvic infections, urinary incontinence and vaginal dryness. "After diagnosis, treatment really focuses on the underlying cause of the patient's symptoms and their impact on daily life," Dr. Brock says. "We can offer a variety of alternative treatment options, ranging from medication to minor procedures to major surgery." Another surprise for Dr. Brock after returning to Huron is how many women leave the community for OB/GYN care. "I've worked at many different hospitals during my training/career and I really think that, in comparison, HRMC provides excellent care," Dr. Brock says. "For a community of its size, Huron is very lucky to have specialists available close to home, both who practice here full-time and who rotate through part-time. People should take advantage of this!" ■ To make an appointment with Dr. Brock, visit www.huronregional.org/find-a-doc. continued from pg. 1 A Website for Women HURON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER PRESENTS GIRL TALK, A PLATFORM WHERE WOMEN CAN FIND AND EXCHANGE NEED-TO-KNOW INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR HEALTH CONCERNS ON A SMART PHONE AND IN THE PRIVACY OF THE HOME. THROUGHOUT LIFE WOMEN face a variety of unique health challenges that may not be convenient or comfortable to discuss. Enter HRMC's Girl Talk. "Girl Talk offers a space where women can learn about common female concerns and have access to local experts," says Kim Rieger, vice president of marketing and communications with HRMC. "This is a safe and supportive environment where women may learn on their own schedules and connect with local resources." A Spectrum of Support Girl Talk features up-to-date information about women's health conditions and new information and topics will be added regularly. An anonymous "ask-the-doc" feature is available for women who want to submit questions they may not be comfortable asking publicly. They can also use this section to see what questions other women are asking. "We want women to know they are not alone in facing health challenges," Rieger says. "By engaging in this online community, they can learn about actionable resources that may help improve their conditions. And simply understanding that others are going through similar situations can help ease worry." The issues discussed on Girl Talk may not necessarily be related to gynecological or obstetric health. Conditions such as anxiety, cardiac complications, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis may also be addressed. "We want Girl Talk to become the first choice for women looking for information to positively benefit every area of their lives," Rieger says. "And this expert advice is available wherever there is an internet connection, making it just a click away." ■ To learn more about HRMC's Girl Talk, visit www.huronregional.org/GirlTalk or visit our Facebook page.
