THE BEST PROTECTION is to know your risk and practice early-detection activities, such as breast self-exams, annual clinical breast exams and regular mammograms. Thanks to the generosity of HRMC Foundation donors, Huron Regional Medical Center offers We've Got You Covered, a program of breast cancer awareness activities and free mammograms. It's designed to increase the number of women receiving regular mammograms, and it's working! To date, more than 300 mammograms have been scheduled through the program, and six women have been covered who couldn't have afforded this potentially lifesaving procedure without the program. Mammograms are available at no charge to women in need: • who are age 40-64, or who are under age 40 and at higher risk for cancer • who have not had a mammogram in two years • who do not have insurance that covers the cost October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it's right around the corner.
