President’s Message… Health complications brought on by diabetes have become a national epidemic. Particularly disconcerting is the growing number of children with Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes affects nearly 26 million people in the U.S. If not properly managed, it can lead to heart and kidney disease and other life-threatening complications. The good news is that you can help control your risk. A healthy lifestyle and proper self-care can prevent or greatly minimize the impact of the disease, and CentraState offers powerful resources to support healthier choices. The Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus offers easy access to the Novo Nordisk Diabetes Center. The center, which earned the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for its self-management education program, provides a range of services that empowers you to take charge of diabetes. People with diabetes affected by non-healing wounds can receive state-of-the-art treatment at the Central Jersey Wound Treatment Center, featuring hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The safest, most effective way to lose weight and improve health is to combine wise food choices and exercise. At our Ambulatory Campus, children and adults can take advantage of the many nutritional counseling and weight management programs offered at the Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center. Just as important, the Fitness and Wellness Center features the latest cardio equipment, group exercise classes and aquatic exercise programs. There’s no better day than today to take control of your health. CentraState’s doors are open, and our qualified and caring staff is ready to help you create a healthier life. Yours in Good Health, John T. Gribbin, FACHE President and CEO Community Voices… Dear Mr. Gribbin, I am writing following an operation for diverticulitis I had at CentraState in April. I cannot say enough about the wonderful, professional care I received during my stay. I was taken care of in a compassionate, professional manner by all I came in contact with. Tom Westerman was my nurse anesthetist. He introduced himself prior to my surgery, and I felt I had someone watching out to make sure everything went well. Dr. DiGiacomo [Jody DiGiacomo, MD, board-certified surgeon] arrived and made sure I was ready. Everyone was very kind and professional. I never experienced any pain or discomfort after surgery. A nurse or nurse’s assistant was always available to help me through the recovery. Considering the fact that I was very upset about the seriousness of my surgery, your staff made it all tolerable. They all deserve special thanks for a tough job well done. Thank you again, Miriam Zangle Marlboro
