Providing Care to Your Kids 24/7 CentraState Medical Center is pleased to announce our new pediatric hospitalists, who will be available in-house, 24/7, under the supervision of Anthony Marino, MD, medical director of Maternal/Child Services. This is one of the few pediatric hospitalist programs in a community hospital in the region. We’re proud to say that the following pediatric hospitalists have recently joined our staff, and we anticipate adding more physicians in this specialty in the near future: Klara Galperina, DO; Menka Desai, MD; Pankaj M. Doshi, MD; and Rudrani Belnekar, MD. These physicians are available to all children admitted to the hospital, and work in consultation with our community pediatricians and family practitioners, allowing us to cover an even broader spectrum of pediatric care. What Is a Pediatric Hospitalist? A pediatric hospitalist is a hospital-based pediatrician who specializes in overseeing your child’s care during visits to CentraState’s Pediatric Unit. These physicians coordinate closely with your child’s primary pediatrician, ensuring that your child receives the most comprehensive care possible while a patient in our health care system. They will watch over your child to direct his or her recovery while in the hospital, and will alert and update your child’s primary pediatrician if there is a change in his or her condition. Our pediatric hospitalists work in tandem with the nurses and physicians on staff to cover your child’s entire range of care in the hospital. Whether they’ve come to the Star and Barry Tobias Emergency Pediatric Care area of our Emergency Department, have just been born in CentraState’s First Impressions Maternity Center or need special infant care in the Colette Cipriano Special Care Nursery, our staff of pediatricians will be there for your child. When your child leaves the care of CentraState’s Pediatric Unit, the pediatric hospitalist will provide a detailed overview of his or her stay to the primary pediatrician with directives if any further care is needed. Broad Spectrum of Care In addition to care and resources, our dedicated pediatric staff provides a soothing, home-like atmosphere to ensure the speedy recovery of your child and the comfort of the whole family. The family-centered services on our Pediatric Unit include: • Unrestricted visitation for parents and guardians—24 hours a day, seven days a week • Flexible, convenient visiting hours for siblings and extended family • Spacious, private and semi-private accommodations • Access to kitchen and food preparation area • Comfortable fold-out guest beds and fresh linens for overnight stays in your child’s room • Fully equipped private bathrooms and showers • Separate treatment rooms for diagnostic procedures, leaving patient rooms as “safe havens” • Recreation rooms, including mobile video game carts • Private telephones and free TV service for patients under 18 years of age For your child’s emergency care, the Star and Barry Tobias Emergency Pediatric Care area of the Emergency Department is also staffed with board-certified pediatricians with emergency room training, and includes five private rooms decorated in child-friendly themes. The family-centered services on our Emergency Pediatric Unit include all the amenities of our Pediatric Unit listed above, plus a family relaxation room with television and Wi-Fi access.
