When shopping for footwear at a shoe store, after spending time being fitted and finding that perfect style, do you feel it is fair to ask for a lower price that might be offered elsewhere online (not at their store)? 48 • Footwear Insight ~ September/October 2024 footwearinsight.com TREND INSIGHT YES Yes, they can always say no. But I have had some good experiences getting the lower price. Male 42 Yes, because it's the same exact item and there's no need for this shoe store to over-price it and profit even more. Female 23 I believe they should price match, with proof of lower price. Male 59 Yes, otherwise I will simply not purchase at the store, aer trying on, I can go back online knowing what size I fit in, and purchase at the lower price. Female 32 Yes. Why spend more unless the shopping experience was that superb? Male 40 Yes I think it's fair to ask if there is a price match. Worst they can say is no. Male 25 I will gladly ask for a price match if the price isn't competitive. Male 46 I think it's fair to respectfully ask if they offer any discounts or price matching Female 42 Yes, it's always logical to get the best price. We live in America, land of capitalism where making money is the center of it all. Stores need to price their goods competitively and offer deals that attract and keep customers. Female 58 If there's a significant difference in price, then yes. Hopefully they will match it to get the sale. Male 52 Yes I do. If it's cheaper somewhere else, I'll go there unless the store I'm in matches the price. Female 37 Yes, it is always is nice to get a deal. Female 41 If I am aware of a lower price, I will ask for a price match. Female 59 Yes. Give the store a chance to compete for your business. Male 46 Definitely is fair. It is more ecological and cost friendly to purchase in store rather than online so the store should match outside prices. It never hurts to ask. Female 30 Yes, because price matching is a thing that other retailers do. If it is a Mom and Pop shop, I understand the constraints on them as a small business, but some wiggle room should be given even by them. Male 44 Yes, I think it is fair to at least ask for a lower, comparable price. If this request is declined, the potential difference in price between in store and online purchase would be the deciding factor on my place of purchase. Female 26 Only if offered at a lower price online by the same retailer. Male 35 I've never been in this situation, but I would think they should match an online price un-less the sale specifically states it's online only. Female 51 I feel that it is fair to inquire whether they offer price matching or not. It's up to the business to decide if they will or won't price match and I can decide accordingly. Many times I will still choose to purchase in store at a higher cost because it is more convenient for returns or exchanges. Female 36 I do not try and haggle the price of shoes. I do my research ahead of time. If I am shopping in store it's because I want to support local small business owners. Female 32 No, I'm willing to pay a little more if the store employee actually knows what they are talking about, and takes the time to ensure I have the best fitting shoe. Male 49 No, I do not feel that is appropriate. For the salesman to take the time and effort to help me, it would be rude to ask for a discount. Male 59 I do not. If you chose to shop at a local shoe store then pay what they are asking and support local businesses. Male 53 No, aer the employee put all effort into finding you the right fit the store should be re-warded with your business. Male 36 No. I assume in store pricing is fixed and not up for negotiation. Female 40 Absolutely not. Someone increased the value (by providing a fitting), not decreased the value. For me to ask for a lower price would be like a slap in the face to the work they did. Female 31 No, I don't haggle at a retail store, unless there is a physical issue (mark, etc). Female 39 No, I generally don't try to haggle with physical stores but I will look to see if a coupon is available. Female 42 Not really. at should have been thought about and looked into before coming to that store. Female 44 No! I will ask if they have a sale or one coming up. Female 48 No the person helping you does not set the prices so don't bother them. Female 38 Noooo that is not something I would feel comfortable doing. If I am getting fitted then I've already made up my mind that I am going to purchase from that store and support that business even if it is more expensive. Female 32 For running shoes, if they do the work to help me find a good pair, they earn the higher price. For repurchase, we take advantage of sales and I will stock up if there is a good sale (Running shoes) Male 52 Not fair. ey did the work, I'll pay them for it. Male 28 No. I trust that my locally owned store has the price set at a price point that is fair for the customer while ensuring they make enough to operate. Male 34 I have never asked to price match; however, I will look at stores online ahead of time and make sure I am going to the lowest priced-option and use coupons if available. Female 42 When you go into a store you are getting service that you would not receive online. I appreciate talking to people I store and they can help direct me to a shoe that best fits my needs. Male 36 Not really? I guess I've never done that or considered it, even though I know some places price match. If it were cheaper elsewhere and I knew that already I'd likely just buy it at the other place instead. Female 38 No, but I would expect the price to be relatively competitive, to keep me from purchasing elsewhere. Male 38 NO
