1980S–1990S—
RECRUITMENT OF
SPECIALISTS
"In the 1970s, critical care
was the only pediatric
subspecialty being developed,
but as time went on, the
number of specialties grew,
and we brought in specialists
to support our team," says
Lowell Clark, MD, Director
of the Pediatric Procedural
Sedation Service at
Children's Hospital, Navicent
Health and Associate
Professor of Pediatrics at
Mercer University School
of Medicine. "We recruited
a pediatric neurosurgeon, a
pediatric general surgeon, a
pediatric gastroenterologist
and two pediatric
endocrinologists in those
early days."
