Incorporating PCR content into its product, however, was just one step in
PrimaLoft's sustainability journey. The company strives to minimize its
overall eco-footprint in the textile manufacturing process, and is the world's
largest manufacturer of bluesign®-certified insulation materials.
All PrimaLoft products comply with the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, an
independent and consistent global certification standard testing for harmful
substances in textiles. An even broader scope in sustainability is encompassed
by the Higg index. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC),
this tool measures the ecological and social impact of products across the
entire textile supply chain.
In addition, PrimaLoft monitors the animal products used in its PrimaLoft®
Performance Down Blend insulations in accordance with the RDS (Responsible
Down Standard), the IDFL (International Down and Feather Laboratory), the
EDFA (European Down and Feather Association) and the ADFC (American
Down and Feather Council).
What will the future hold? Potential steps in the company's sustainability
journey include energy reduction, carbon emission reduction, biodegradable
products, and natural plant-based fibers.
"Product innovation is an important aspect of our commitment to sus-
tainability, but establishing a truly sustainable business is about much more,"
maintains Joyce. "Our goal is to set the standard in sustainable manufactur-
ing at every level – from the sourcing of materials, all the way through to
the final products that enable consumers to connect with the outdoors."
