F O U N D A T I O N Laying the groundwork for fi nancial success 6 | FALL 2020 Boost your brain health Keep your mind in tip-top shape with these tips. 1. Move more. When your heart rate increases during exercise, more oxygen is pumped into the brain, and those feel- good endorphins from a good sweat session also provide an ideal environment for brain cells to grow and fl ourish. 2. Stay social. People with active social lives are less likely to develop dementia. Join a book club, fi nd a volunteer cause or just make time to call a friend at least once a week to keep your social connections strong. 3. Squash stress. Chronic stress can negatively aff ect your memory and attention. Here's how: • Set up a workspace. Whether you have an entire room or just a nook for a home offi ce, designating space specifi cally for work will help you get into the right mode. • Stay in touch. You may not have a watercooler at home, but you can keep up the communication with your co-workers. Use tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams and Zoom to bounce ideas off each other and stave off feelings of isolation. • Strike a balance. Don't get sucked into working 24/7 — that will just put you on the fast track to burnout. Take breaks to eat lunch or go for a walk and set "offi ce" hours so that you have time to tend to the non-work aspects of your life. — H.S. $2,035 price of gold per ounce, a record high reached during the coronavirus pandemic by September 2020.
