F O U N D A T I O N Laying the groundwork for fi nancial success 4 | FALL 2018 In recent years, the rise of hospitality game changers Airbnb and VRBO has turned the industry on its head. Now, there's a new player in town — and in cities all over the world: "Accommodation providers" that rent out their own apartments as short- term stays. One example: The Guild, an Austin-based startup, leases fully furnished apartments in trendy areas of Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Miami as somewhat of a boutique hotel/short-term rental hybrid. And it's all done virtually. Check-in can be done on your cellphone before you arrive or with the front desk on arrival. You choose. You book your room on a travel app or on The Guild's website. Forty-eight hours before your arrival, you'll receive a text message and email with the details, including access codes and a survey allowing you to customize your stay. (Fridge stocked with the local craft brew? Yes, please!) Follow the directions for parking and … you have arrived. Need during your stay assistance? Text the 24/7 concierge service to fi nd everything from a toothbrush to a late-night taco joint. — Gina Mayfi eld The Alt-Hotel: Hospitality reimagined
