A W O R D from the CEO 02 | | Fall 2016 It feels like I was just talking about sending off my oldest son, Andrew, to college and now my youngest, Alex, is preparing to graduate college next spring! Of course, American Airlines Federal Credit Union was there to help them start the journey toward good credit on the right foot, but how did it go by so quickly? The Credit Union might not be able to keep them from growing up so fast, but it can help them grow a successful financial future. We set up both our boys with a starter card from the Credit Union so that they could begin building good credit early. It certainly prepared them to avoid the temptation of all of those credit card offers that pack your mailbox while off at school, often promising big balances along with even bigger fees and annual percentage rates. Don't miss our helpful story on "College Credit 101" on Page 16, which offers a checklist of ways to avoid the pitfalls of college overspending which could lead to debt that haunts you long after graduation. American Airlines Credit Union provides parents and their college-bound kids with a number of tools to keep them on an even financial keel, including starter credit cards, a full-service app for smart phones and tablets, free credit education and services like SavvyMoney, which provides regular credit score updates through our online banking channel. Of course, with a double major in accounting and finance, Alex should be well prepared to meet the challenges of managing his own money as a young adult. The question remains as to whether I'm prepared to meet the challenges of realizing they're no longer my little boys. I don't think even we have an app for that.
