The store, at 29875 Northwestern Highway in Southfield's Applegate Center, is one of several new shops added to the revitalized retail area. Judith Debra Stern, known as "Debbie," and her husband, Mickey, of Orchard Lake, opened Beautiful Beginnings in July. They've been mar- ried 42 years and, for most of those years, worked together in Debbie's family-owned furniture business, Moss & Associates in Dearborn. They served the Orthodox Jewish and Chaldean communities with a 45-employee staff. "When we closed the Dearborn store, the void was noticed," said Detroit native Debbie. "Our Jewish and non-Jewish customers were ask- ing where they could buy both adult and children's furniture. "I've always had a passion for children's furniture," she continued. "When our daughter Natalie wanted to open a children's store in Florida, we were very supportive. After we sold our business, I went to help her start her store, Rooms for a Prince and Princess, in Boca Raton. Then we came back to Michigan to open our own boutique, near the communities we served in the past and close to my friends." Mickey, the Yugoslavian-born son of Holocaust survivors, added, "We chose the Southfield location because it's convenient for all our clientele. Now, the challenge is to get the word out that we're here. We use social media, but word-of-mouth advertis- ing is the most important to reach our previous clients and to bring new customers to our store."
